Whale of a Good Time

My brother Thomas recently graduated from college in Upstate New York, and of course this was not an occasion this California girl was going to miss! Tom went to school in Poughkeepsie, and since we had a lot of family traveling for the big event my parents decided to rent a house in nearby Rhinebeck for the occasion. The white shuttered house was so cute and on an amazing property with lush green lawns. It truly had that Northeast charm that I grew familiar with during my childhood summers in Massachusetts. The classic aesthetic inspired me to wear one of my preppiest outfits. I love love love this J.Crew whale sweater that I bought a few seasons ago, but in Northern California it always feels like a bit too much. However, in Upstate NY the preppy look fit right in! I wore it with a fun full yellow skirt for a look that’s perfectly summer.

Pink and Pleated

One of my favorite pieces lately has been this blush pink pleated skirt from J.Crew. I bought it a few years ago and seriously get a compliment on it each time I wear it. One of the things I love about it is that it’s surprisingly versatile. Often I can find myself gravitating to neutrals like navy and black for easy pairings, but this solid colored skirt is just as easy to match and offers a much lighter look for summertime. I love the feminine color to this piece and the flattering pleats.

I have different ways that I wear this skirt, but for this look I wanted to feature one of this season’s hottest trends— the off the shoulder top. I got this top at Banana Republic and of course could not resist it because of the unexpected bow in the back! It is sort of like a mullet shirt, business in the front and a party in the back, haha. I finished off the look with pale milkshake pink accessories to complement the blush skirt. I had to add one of my favorite pink pieces, the Bauble Bar Crispin Drops earrings. Seriously how fun are these? The only issue is that they are pretty heavy on your ears and make it hard to walks around!
