Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cone Halloween Costume

Hello Readers!

I wanted to share with you my Halloween costume this year: a mint chocolate chip ice cream cone! It was a little bit of a random decision, but I’m happy with how it turned out. It was inspired by this blog post and I found it pretty easy to copy adding my own flair with the mint color. I spent no money on this costume, wearing things that I already had in the house which is always a plus!

Here is a quick tutorial of how to copy this costume:

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Mint dress
  2. Brown paper
  3. Tape
  4. Scissors
  5. Brown pencil and ruler (optional)

I started with the mint chocolate chip dress. For this I just wore a simple mint J.Crew Factory dress from a few years ago. I then cut out some chocolate chips out of construction paper and taped them to the dress. You could also use fabric glue or even hot glue the chips to your dress, I just taped mine since I wanted to wear this dress again for regular occasions.

Next, I made my cone crown. I cut a large triangle out of brown wrapping paper and then added some pieces from a paper bag to the back to add some structure to the cone. I then drew on some criss-cross lines onto the paper to make it look more like an ice cream cone. I used a ruler to try to keep the lines fairly straight, but I definitely wasn’t a perfectionist about this! Then I just rolled it into a cone and stapled it to hold. I added two small pieces of paper off the sides that I then bobby pinned into my hair.

The costume was so easy to make and a big hit this last weekend and I’m glad I did a little DIY costume this year! Have a very happy and safe Halloween!

Happy Friday!

This week has been a pretty mellow one. I spent most of my time working on projects at home and continuing my ever-productive search for a job ūüôā This weekend I will be back in my college town for some Halloween festivities which should be a fun time and a nice change of pace from the little rut I have been in.

Here are some things I have been loving this week:

  1. Engagement Photo Bomb: I saw this on Buzzfeed and thought it was so cute, I just had to share it! How sweet is this hippo who dropped into an engagement photo?
  2. J.Crew Factory Skirt: I am SO in love with this skirt! How perfect would it be for upcoming holiday parties?!
  3. Draper James X Jack Rodgers Flats:¬†I have had a crush on Draper James for quite a while now, although I have yet to actually buy anything from them. I think these flats are so cute and easy to throw on and wear about town, they may just have to be my first Draper James purchase ūüôā
  4. My favorite fall Scent: I love this candle from Bath and Bodyworks for the fall. Everyone who would come into my apartment last year when I was burning it would always comment on how good it smelled. It still feels a little too warm to be breaking out the fall scents just yet, but I am looking forward to using this once it cools off a little more!
  5. Neiman Marcus Christmas Book:¬†The Neiman Marcus Christmas Book arrived at our house this week, and while it felt a little early to be thinking about Christmas gifts, I always love to look through the book. They have a list of luxury gift experiences that you can purchase including a 300 person party right in Times Square during New Year’s Eve. It’s so fun to flip through the glossy pages and dream about buying something extravagant like that!

Have a fun and festive Hallo-Weekend!

Weekly Vlog Week of September 25th

Happy Thursday aka Friday Jr!

Today I am sharing the next video in my vlog series, this is another one from back in September. It is a little bit more of a window into my everyday life, since I don’t go on any trips or get stranded at an airport in this vlog!

I hope you have been enjoying these videos, I’m currently working on one vlog for all of¬†October that I will upload next week.

Elephant Print Skirt

I have had my eye on this J.Crew skirt ever since it popped up on their website in late summer and when it finally went on sale I knew I had to snag it. It has been the perfect piece to wear in these early warm days of fall. It makes such a great statement all on its own, so I frequently pair it with a basic black T-shirt and flats. When the weather finally turns cooler I’m planning on wearing it with some red sweaters to bring out that color in the print.

These photos were actually taken by my lovely cousin Hannah on my recent trip to visit her in Minneapolis. You can see more of that trip by checking out my vlog here. We went to Minnehaha Park to take the pictures and it was such a cool place, I would definitely recommend it to anyone traveling to the area!

Lo’s Loves

Hello dear readers! This week I am starting a new series that I hope to publish each Friday summing up some of my favorite things from the week.

This week has been a mixed one, as the Bay Area is still recovering from the North Bay wildfires. My heart hurts so much thinking about the neighboring counties that have been affected by this disaster. My college roommate actually lost her home, and while I am very thankful that she is safe, it makes me so incredibly sad to think about what she’s going through. Of course, there are silver linings to almost every tragedy. Seeing how eager people are to lend a helping hand warmed my heart and it just¬†proves how capable we can be of compassion. So many states came¬†to our aid when we needed hope the most. My grandmother sent my family of four a giant box of respirators to help us breathe during the severe fire smoke (we have had to stay inside most days because of the smoke). Someone in my hometown even hung up a banner across a freeway overpass thanking the firefighters for keeping us safe. All of these actions bring a smile to my face and restores my hope for better days ahead.

Here are a few of the things that I have been loving this week.

  1. Fall doorsteps:  I have seen so many cute festive displays both online and in person this week. It feels like October is finally in full swing and I love seeing different takes on the pumpkin trend.
  2. North Bay Fire Relief: The outpouring¬†of support for this community has been so amazing. If you want to help out you can donate to the Red Cross, and if you’re local you can sign up to volunteer.
  3. This J.Crew Skirt: J.Crew has seriously had so many cute things this fall, and I can’t get over this cute wool ruffle skirt. The gray one is definitely on my wishlist!
  4. The Dallas Arboretum: I have seen quite a few people on Instagram posting photos at the Dallas Arboretum and they seem so perfectly autumnal! I love their Halloween displays and I am seriously wishing I lived closer so I could go!
  5. Halloween Bark: I made this Martha Stewart recipe a few years ago and it was soooo good! I am having some friends over Sunday for some mulled wine and pumpkin carving, and I think I might just have to make the recipe for them.

Have a great weekend!

Weekly Vlog Week of September 17th

Hello readers!

Alright, so I will quickly admit I am a little late in posting this video, but it was my first time filming and editing a vlog so it took longer than expected! I am so proud of how this project turned out and definitely will be posting more video content in the future.

You can watch this vlog and get an update about what I do in a typical week. In this vlog I attend an art festival, hang out with friends and travel to the midwest.

Please enjoy and let me know what you think!
