Vlogtober

Hello!

I just wanted to write a quick post today to share my October monthly vlog. I have really been enjoying experimenting with vlogs and video editing. It can be tough work but I’ve already learned a lot! For October I recorded on and off for the month and then edited everything into one long vlog at the end of the month.

I hope you enjoy:

Lo’s Loves

Happy Friday!

This week has been a fun and festive one. I always love to celebrate holidays and break up some of the ordinary monotony of things. This year I did a simple DIY costume with stuff I found from around my house. You can check out that blog post here.

Did anyone else enjoy watching the World Series this week? I am a Red Sox fan, but I still had fun catching a few games. On Wednesday night my family and I watched game seven and ate the classic ballpark food—hot dogs (mine was a veggie of course).

Here are some of the things I have been loving this week:

  1. Jack Rogers Thanksgiving Flats: So often I think people just skip from Halloween right into Christmas mode and I always feel bad for poor Thanksgiving! Jack Rogers has made the cutest flats to celebrate the holiday, and I’m glad to see Thanksgiving getting the attention it deserves.
  2. American Girl Halloween Costume: How cute is this group costume of the American Girl Dolls? I had a Samantha doll when I was younger and this photo has me wanting to dress as her next year!
  3. Tiffany Silver Cup Project: Tiffany & Co. has launched a campaign featuring celebrities using the classic silver cup in a variety of different ways. I think my favorite is Ryan Korban’s use of the cup to hold peonies. It’s just such a cute and clever campaign showing how beautiful and versatile the product is. I think the campaign perfectly fits Tiffany’s branding of classic, understated and beautiful.
  4. Ocean Spray Cranberry Bog in Rockefeller Center: Ocean Spray (yes the cranberry people) hosted a dinner party inside a cranberry bog that was set up in Rockefeller Center. This event looks so beautiful and autumnal, and I bet wading through a cranberry bog to dinner was a pretty cool experience! They have hosted this event for a few years and it is definitely a goal of mine to someday score an invite.
  5. The Lion King Live Action Cast: The official cast for the live-action Lion King remake was released this week. Can I just say that I am so excited to see Beyonce as Nala (also excited for Donald Glover as Simba)! Summer 2019 can’t come soon enough!

Have a great weekend!

Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cone Halloween Costume

Hello Readers!

I wanted to share with you my Halloween costume this year: a mint chocolate chip ice cream cone! It was a little bit of a random decision, but I’m happy with how it turned out. It was inspired by this blog post and I found it pretty easy to copy adding my own flair with the mint color. I spent no money on this costume, wearing things that I already had in the house which is always a plus!

Here is a quick tutorial of how to copy this costume:

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Mint dress
  2. Brown paper
  3. Tape
  4. Scissors
  5. Brown pencil and ruler (optional)

I started with the mint chocolate chip dress. For this I just wore a simple mint J.Crew Factory dress from a few years ago. I then cut out some chocolate chips out of construction paper and taped them to the dress. You could also use fabric glue or even hot glue the chips to your dress, I just taped mine since I wanted to wear this dress again for regular occasions.

Next, I made my cone crown. I cut a large triangle out of brown wrapping paper and then added some pieces from a paper bag to the back to add some structure to the cone. I then drew on some criss-cross lines onto the paper to make it look more like an ice cream cone. I used a ruler to try to keep the lines fairly straight, but I definitely wasn’t a perfectionist about this! Then I just rolled it into a cone and stapled it to hold. I added two small pieces of paper off the sides that I then bobby pinned into my hair.

The costume was so easy to make and a big hit this last weekend and I’m glad I did a little DIY costume this year! Have a very happy and safe Halloween!

Super Easy Candy Corn Bark

With Halloween just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about party food. This candy corn bark is extremely easy to make, and it tastes delicious! It is the perfect combination of sweet and salty which makes it addictive!

Here’s what you’ll need:

A bag of Halloween Oreos

Three cups of pretzels

1.5 lbs of white chocolate

A bag of candy corn

Some festive sprinkles

Step One:

Break apart all the Oreos and pretzels. This is a really fun process and makes this recipe perfect for doing with kids! If you want to keep your hands mess-free put all the ingredients into a Ziplock bag and mash them up inside. Then spread them out across a lightly greased cooking sheet.

Step Two:

Melt the white chocolate using a double boiler

Step Three:

Use a spoon to spread the melted white chocolate over your crushed pretzels and Oreos

Step Four: Add the sprinkles and candy corn on top of the white chocolate. Let the sheet cool in the refrigerator overnight.

Step Five: Transfer the bark onto a cutting board and chop it into pieces. Now it’s ready to be served!

And there you have it, five easy steps for a yummy Halloween treat!

XOXO

Lauren
