Last month I went to see San Francisco Ballet’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Admittedly, I have never read the book and all my impressions of the story were of the green monster variety. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the gothic story paired with the romance of the ballet. Ballet always seems to be based on pushing the physical body and seeing what composes us, while Frankenstein wrestles with how the emotional and conscious sides of humans are developed and furthered.
I love taking inspiration from events when planning out my evening outfits, and this was no exception. I opted for a beautiful tulle skirt with sequined stars and moons embroidered onto it for something reminiscent of a ballerina skirt. Naturally I had to pair the skirt with a delicate pair of metallic ballet flats. To this I added a sophisticated cold shoulder top in the ultimate romantic shade—pink. Of course the drama of the outfit would not be complete without some sparkly earrings!
One of the trends I have really loved this winter has been velvet. The luxurious fabric just seems to add an unexpected element of elegance to any outfit. One of my favorite variations of this trend has been found in a dress I picked up from Anthropologie on an amazing sale. The dusty rose color is perfect for the romantic tones of late winter. I really like the western style detailing on the bust, it mades it a perfect pairing for booties.
I love the jewel tone styles this fall. When I saw this dress at Madewell, I knew I had to have it. The green is so on-trend and it is the perfect shade to bring out my sometimes green eyes, pale skin and my golden tinted hair. The color is so rich and beautiful that you really do not need to add anything extra to this dress. Wearing it simply makes the best statement. I did add small purple earrings to continue the jewel tone theme, but I kept the rest of my accessories plain, as to not take away from the fabulous dress.
I love wearing maxi dresses in the summer. There’s something about wearing such a long dress that just makes me feel in control. When wearing one, you are destined to turn heads and make a statement. I like to wear such long dresses with cropped sweaters or jackets, such as this jean jacket from American Eagle. Keeping your hair up and out of the way is a great option because it’s less fussy and allows the focus to be on your fabulous dress. I find that wedges or cute sandals offer great ways to complete maxi dress outfits. How do you like to wear maxi dresses?
I really love it when Banana Republic has designer collaborations. These are super common for stores like Target, but I find that sometimes the quality for those lines will decline (If you want to see some past posts for Target designer lines click here and here). However, with Banana Republic lines you get the great designer styles and maintain high quality clothing. This line with Milly is absolutely perfect for June! It is full of fun, bright colors which are great for the spring to summer transition. My favorite piece of the line is probably the white t-shirt with pink beading pictured above. It’s so simple, yet the pink beading adds great detail to the tee. To see the whole line click here.
For me, winter fashion is simple, elegant and warm. I love this outfit because it feels so simple and easy, but has little feminine details that make it put-together. I love the creamy white of the sweater, which makes it ever so appropriate for the winter months. The dress has lovely lace neck detail that keeps it from being too plain. One of my favorite added touches is the splashes of red. I can find it so difficult to include color into my January wardrobe, but I find small accept colors to do the trick.
I love this time of year, and embrace the holiday season in any way I can think of! I loved the simplicity of the reindeer t-shirt. I thought it would be perfect to throw on with jeans for running errands. It could easily be played up for a holiday party. And of course, no holiday outfit is complete without my Christmas charm bracelet, plaid headband and smoking slippers!
My cousin recently got married last September. She followed the all-so-popular country themes wedding complete with mason jars and beautiful wildflowers. For the picnic wedding, I needed a dress that was fun, simple and classic. I found just that in the color blocked Kate Spade dress I wore. Its clean color scheme added a simplistic chic element, while the bow belt made it girlie and fun. The best part of the dress was probably it’s full skirt- it was perfect for dancing! My outfit also had a lot of feminine details, like the pretty lace hem to the dress and the bows on the end of my sweater sleeves.
While the Little Black Dress is a necessary staple in any woman’s closet, it’s fun to change things up every once in a while. I am loving this season’s return to navy and the LND embraces it fully. Play it up with a pop of neon or some fun shoes. I love the incorporation of lace that my dress has.
